How to think better?
Our emotions, our behavior, and our perception of ourselves – all comes from our mind, specifically our thoughts. What have you been thinking about today? What are you thinking about right now? What do those thoughts say about you? About your life? And how well do they really match your plans for your life and your image of yourself?
Think about these 8 tips to think better – collected over the past 2500 years, and then visit the blog post link at the bottom for some more inspiration.
1 ) You are what you think
You become what’s on your mind – it influences your behavior, and more or less, the decisions which you make day to day are in direct relation to what is inside your mind. If you’re thinking negative thoughts – you probably are not living happy in your life day to day. If you have negative thoughts in your mind right now, clear them out and then smile – surely right away you’ll begin feeling happier. Every time you get a negative thought, pause, and replace it with a positive thought – begin doing this and you’ll begin living a much happier life.
2 ) Thinking has it’s place – just don’t think too much
You may dream up every idea, you may always be thinking and planning ways to do things – but the most important step is to execute. It is good to think, but only think about something once, and then do it. Even better, employ the “Ready, Fire, Aim” principle. Your best learning and success will come through quick actions, not planning – but always failing to execute.
3 ) Your mind can become a prison
It is easy to get consumed with only your own thoughts, beliefs, and long held opinions – and never deviate. Just because it has been in your mind for a long time, does not mean that it is always right. Don’t over-think or over-calculate things in your mind. If someone else offers you there opinion, don’t be prevented from trying it out just because something in your mind doesn’t agree with it.
4 ) Keep control of your emotions
We are all naturally emotional creatures – and if you spend too much time thinking about the negative things in your life, broken down relationships, or un-realistic dreams – then you will become unhappy and it will affect your work, friends, family, and life. It’s best to think over these things in your mind, but not all the time. Keep a control on your mind and don’t let your thoughts dominate your life and behavior.
5 ) Think for yourself
It is important to take others opinions into consideration – but remember to also hold your own in high regard. From your life of learning, you have collated opinions and learned your own perspective of the world. It is important that you can think from yourself, and consider all opinions, but most importantly your own in any decisions that you make.
6 ) Don’t worry about what others think about you
If you believe that the opinion that others have of you is important, then you may be thinking too much. Don’t worry about what others think about you, live your own life, and be happy with your own decisions and your own path. Don’t live your life seeking approval, set your own goals, and when you achieve them – reward yourself both in your mind, and with something that will give you an incentive to hit an even bigger goal next time.
7 ) Think constructively
Make sure that you think about constructive things – and then take constructive actions. Don’t spend time worrying about things when you don’t know what to expect – the best way to find out is to just do it. Often when you do something you didn’t think you could do, you wonder what the big deal was in the first place.
8 ) Be present in the moment
There are times when you should just focus on your task at hand – and clear all thoughts out of your mind. When you are working, or out with friends or family – be present with them in the moment, and don’t think too much. Leave thinking for when you are alone, when you can spend some time to reflect. Put aside the time to think. Also remember to get plenty of good quality sleep every night – as your brain organises your thoughts in your sleep.
